SANTA MARIA NOVELLA
Catherine de Medici, the daughter of a Florentine king who became Queen of France in 1547, established Santa Maria Novella. She popularised shoes and forks and commissioned a fragrance to create her distinctive smell, Acqua della Regina (Water of the Queen).
